Dear Year 7

I hope you are safe and well.  I want to start by thanking you for your support in keeping up with your learning at home.   I have been very impressed with the way students (and parents) have been handling this new way of working so far and your subject teachers have really enjoyed seeing the work you have completed.  Well done!

I am writing to you in order to share with you our plans for the next phase of your learning which will begin after half term.  Each department in school has considered the knowledge and skills that you need to make the strongest start possible to Year 8 and have then put together a schedule of learning for 7 weeks which will help you to make that transition.

The overview of the work for each subject can be found on the school website, and your teachers will be posting the lessons and resources weekly.   Your work will be set weekly on Show My Homework until 29th June when Year 7 will be exclusively using TEAMS.  Please spend some time over the next few weeks becoming familiar with Teams and let us know if you have any problems.

Your continuing feedback has been essential in helping us to plan this next phase of learning.

You said…

We did…

In some case you have simply been overwhelmed by the amount of work on Show My Homework.

Your transition pack for each subject will outline exactly what you need to complete on a week by week basis.

Some of you have struggled with some of the content of resources.

We have responded by ensuring that you get some audio recorded instruction and explanation from subject teachers.

Some of you have been unsure about how to submit work.

We have responded by asking all subjects to move towards using TEAMS to set and submit work.  For Year 7, your work will continue to be set on Show My Homework until 29th June, when it will all be on Teams.

There was inconsistencies with marking and feedback across subjects.

We have responded by signposting what will be marked in each pack of work.

If there is too much work, or you don’t understand it, please request help and advice. Your tutors and subject teachers are there to support and guide you throughout this journey. Do not worry.  This is a marathon and not a sprint and you will get into a pattern and rhythm over time.  This is a new way of working for everyone.  Please do not get overwhelmed or stressed.

You are fantastic, hard-working, caring and supportive, and this is why I know that even during these unprecedented times you will be doing everything you can to give yourself the best possible start for Year 8. It is important that you keep yourself healthy, your brain active and thoughts positive. Personally for me, it has been an absolute pleasure being your RSL this year and I want to make sure we end the academic year on a high by producing outstanding work, pushing yourself and motivating others.

The Year 7 team will continue to keep in close contact with you all and hope that the school gates will be open again in the not too distant future.

Any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch via email:

Yours sincerely,
