Here at Abbey College we like to fully prepare out year 6 pupils for the step up into secondary school. The transition into secondary school can be a daunting period for many young people. This can often mean that when pupils join their secondary schools in September they spend a period of time settling in and adapting to their new school rather than progressing with their learning and personal development.

In partnership with our local primary schools we feel that this period of time can be used more effectively to make sure that pupils continue their learning and progress quickly into secondary education.

Therefore, Year 6 pupils will have the opportunity to learn at Abbey College full-time for 1 week in the summer term. This will help pupils become immersed in the Abbey College way of life, experience secondary school education and get to know some of their peers and teachers before the summer break. We also believe this will help parents get to know the key points of contact and help to answer any questions you might have about the move into secondary school.
