Sam Carling - MP Visits Abbey College

The MP for North West Cambridgeshire visited Abbey College to engage with students and staff for the first time since his election last year.

On 10th January, Abbey College and Ramsey Gatehouse Sixth Form welcomed Sam Carling who shared his insights around his role, environmental policy and the importance of the youth voice in politics with Year 11, 12 and 13 students. This wasn't the first time some of the students had met Sam as they had the opportunity to talk to him during a visit to the Houses of Parliament in November last year. The visit also included a tour around the school site with Mr Christoforou.

This was a great opportunity for the students of Abbey College to think about and ask questions of the MP and for them to get insights to the role of the MP.

Abbey College and Ramsey Gatehouse Sixth Form Welcome Cambridgeshire police and Crime Commissioner

The school recently hoset Darryl Preston, cambridgeshire and Peterborough Police and Crime Commissioner to discuss community safety. Four students from the Gatehouse Sixth Form held initial discussions with younger students to gather views to discuss with Mr Preston.  The group discussed a range of topics, including Darryl’s role and his perspective on community safety, specific local issues such as tackling drug problems, and practical aspects of policing like an officer’s day-to-day role.
