Dear Year 10,

We hope we find you safe and well and want to start by thanking you for your support in keeping up with your learning at home.   We have been very impressed with the way students (and parents) have been handling this new way of working so far.  We can do this!

Your teachers have been providing work for all of you and have been working hard to get it right.  Your continuing feedback has been essential in helping us to improve the process of learning and teaching for you.  You have told us that:

  • In some cases you have simply been overwhelmed by the amount of work on Show My Homework. We have responded by ensuring that from here on in only 1 week of lessons will go on at a time. For most subjects this will be about 3 hours of learning.
  • You have struggled with some of the content of resources. We have responded by ensuring that in each week of learning you are getting some audio recorded instruction from subject teachers.
  • You have been unsure about how to submit work. We have responded by asking all subjects to use TEAMS to set and submit work (you should have already received instructions on how to use TEAMS. If you have any issues just email us).
  • You have felt that feedback has been patchy. We have responded by insisting that you are given feedback by teachers once a week for each subject.

Lead Learners have written a schedule of learning for the next 7 weeks.  This work is aimed at supporting your transition into Year 11 and will help and support you in the process of stepping up. Where possible they have tried to support your learning by reviewing and revising content that you have already studied.  Where this may not have been possible they have still tried to create resources that are very accessible. We will be supporting the programme with a series of video clips and tasks aimed at introducing a variety of revision techniques and further support for independent learning.

If there is too much work, or you don’t understand it, please request help and advice.  Do not worry.  This is a marathon and not a sprint.  What it isn’t though - is an extended summer holiday J.  You need to get into a pattern and rhythm over time.  This is a new way of working for everyone.  Please do not get overwhelmed or stressed.

This letter is also the ideal time to introduce you to the idea of transitioning from Year 10 into Year 11.

Therefore, I (Mrs Glen) would like to welcome you to Year 11. This is an incredibly difficult time for us all and I want to res-assure you that myself and the Year 11 tutor team are here for you. My role is to provide advice, support and guidance that ensures that every student is able to achieve in Year 11. Over the next few weeks I will be working alongside Mrs Khan to introduce you to the wide variety of interventions and programmes that we have in place to support you throughout your final year in school. We will be working closely with each and every one of you to help your re-integration into school and break down any barriers to learning to allow you to achieve your potential in your GCSE exams.

You are a fantastic, thoughtful and determined year group and I am looking forward to getting to know and supporting you all. Stay focussed.  Stay determined. You will get there.

The Year 10 team will continue to keep in close contact with you all and hope that the school gates will be open again in the not too distant future.

Any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact either Mrs Khan or Mrs Glen

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Khan                                                                            Mrs Glen
