EthosCulture Badges 300Year 8 Graduation is a reward ceremony that signals the end of Key Stage 3 and the start of both Year 9 and the GCSE courses. Throughout Year 7 and 8 students collect points for attendance, conduct, academic success and contributions to the school and wider community. Students who reach the status of Advanced or Expert Learner by the end of Year 8 graduate with Honours.

At Abbey College, we believe in helping all students to be challenged, in all aspects of their learning and to help them to be aspirational and recognise that they are capable of anything they put their mind to. As such our values are:

Be Polite – ‘Treat everyone with politeness, even those that are rude to you. Not because they are nice, but because you are’. We expect courtesy and manners, in all that our students and staff do.

Equipped for learning – ‘Proper prior planning prevents poor performance’. We expect students to be ready and willing to learn, with open minds and all the equipment for the lesson in front of them. After all, you wouldn’t employ a plumber, if they didn’t come with the right tools!

Sticking at and completing the task – ‘Winners never quit, quitters never win’. The world of work is not easy, the average teenager will do more than 14 different jobs in their lifetime. That is going to require our young people to persevere and be resilient in times of change and difficulty – so we work hard to teach them to take on a challenge and do their best to succeed.

Tolerance – ‘Tolerance is giving to every other human being, every right that you claim for yourself’. We are all different and that is ok, embracing peoples’ differences and understanding other people helps you to understand yourself. That doesn’t mean you have to be like them, or believe the same things they do, but it does mean respecting everyone’s right to be themselves.

Our aim is to focus on the positive. We reward students in many different ways:

  • Verbal praise
  • Good choices on Go 4 schools
