The students visited the city to learn more about how the sectors of marketing, finance and business work within one of the most dynamic cities in the world.

Alex Thompson, Teacher of Business and Economics at the College, said: “This is the first time the BITE department has offered an overseas residential and it was an amazing experience for both students and staff. The students were outstanding ambassadors for the College and within a short space of time they were able to learn a great deal.

“Seeing how theories they have learnt about in class can be translated into the real world is an important aspect of the student’s learning, preparing them for their exams later in the year. We will definitely look to repeat this trip for future students studying in our Sixth Form.”

During the five day residential, students explored the Financial District, listened to a talk about Wall Street and visited the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. They also learnt about marketing at Macy’s, the largest department store in the world, and put their theoretical learning into context by visiting Madison Square Garden to understand how it is able to run over 360 events a year.

On their jam-packed trip, the students also visited iconic attractions including the Empire State Building and Central Park. They also visited the 9/11 Memorial and the Barclays Centre to watch a basketball game.
