• Abbey College, Abbey Road, Hollow Lane, Ramsey Cambridgeshire PE26 1DG

The college was awarded the prestigious Gold Religious Education Quality Mark which recognises and celebrates outstanding teaching of religious education within schools. Gold is the highest mark a school can achieve under the award.

Andy Christoforou, headteacher of Abbey College, said: “It is great to have the hard work of our RE department and the quality of our teaching recognised and celebrated. I am very proud of the efforts of our students and teachers.”

The Quality Mark is monitored by The Religious Education Council of England and Wales (REC) which is comprised of a number of academic and professional associations, specialising in religions and religious education.

The recognition also means that work completed at the College will appear on the RE Quality Mark website as an example of exemplary work.

The award follows a highly successful year for the college. Last week the college was placed above national average and in the top 25 per cent of schools for its GCSE results, and in the top 4 per cent for its A Levels.

Mr Christoforou added: “It is very pleasing to see the hard work of our teachers and community converted into very positive results. Next year we are already significantly oversubscribed for places in Year 7 which means the community is becoming increasingly confident and proud of the College’s consistent achievements.”
